RATES RISE AGAIN: The average rate on the 30-year fixed mortgage rose for the fourth straight week, to 4.91 percent, Freddie Mac said. The rate on the 15-year loan also rose to 4.13 percent.
STILL ATTRACTIVELY LOW: The 30-year rate remains below 5 percent. It hit a 40-year low of 4.17 percent in November.
HOUSING STILL IN THE DUMPS: Banks took back 13 percent more homes in March than during the previous month, the highest increase in a year. Foreclosures typically are sold at deep discounts and push down the value of nearby homes.
