Ever since we learned about #batfleck, one of the most popular tweets making the rounds has fancifully imagined The Avengers writer-director Joss Whedon orchestrating the Warner Bros. hire as part of some sabotage scheme. But on Friday afternoon, Whedon tweeted his support for Ben Affleck taking over the iconic role in Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel sequel:
Affleck'll crush it. He's got the chops, he's got the chin — just needs the material. Affleck & Cavill toe to toe — I'm in.—

And so, the Marvel vs. DC cold war thawed slightly … for now. The tweet garnered about 1,000 RTs within 10 minutes of posting.
Previously this bit of snark was making the rounds, from Late Night with Jimmy Fallon writer Mike Drucker:
*Joss Whedon takes off his Warner Brothers executive disguise, speaks into wrist radio.*
"It's done."—

Be sure to check out Jeff Jensen’s take on Affleck being hired for the role. Whedon is on the cover of this week’s Entertainment Weekly with a deep-dive 10-page Q&A spanning his career. More on that here.
